Description
The Technical QA Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of software applications by planning, executing, and improving testing activities. This role works closely with developers, business analysts, and project teams to identify issues early, enhance testing processes, and support successful software releases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, prepare, and execute comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test scripts for software applications.
- Perform both manual and automated testing to validate application functionality, performance, and stability.
- Detect, document, prioritize, and monitor software defects until they are resolved.
- Collaborate with developers and project stakeholders to understand business requirements and ensure complete test coverage.
- Develop and maintain automated testing frameworks to improve testing efficiency and reduce repetitive manual work.
- Review application requirements and technical specifications to identify potential quality risks during development.
- Prepare testing documentation, including test reports, defect summaries, release readiness reports, and quality metrics.
- Monitor software quality throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and recommend process improvements.
- Participate in sprint planning, requirement reviews, and product demonstrations to provide quality assurance input.
- Ensure software releases meet internal quality standards before deployment to production.
- Support root cause analysis for production issues and assist in verifying corrective actions.
- Research and evaluate new testing tools, methodologies, and best practices to enhance the QA process.
Requirements
Experience & Skills
- Experience in software quality assurance involving both manual and automation testing.
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, SDLC, and defect management processes.
- Ability to create clear and structured testing documentation, including test plans, test cases, and defect reports.
- Familiarity with programming or scripting languages such as Java, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with experience in the following will have an added advantage:
- Automated testing tools such as Selenium, Appium, Playwright, or Cypress.
- API testing using Postman, Karate, or similar frameworks.
- Version control systems such as Git or GitLab.
- CI/CD tools including Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or Azure DevOps.
- Build management tools such as Maven, Gradle, or NPM.
- SQL and relational databases including MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, or Oracle.
- Backend technologies such as Python, PHP, or Go.
- Linux and Windows operating environments.
- Basic understanding of application security concepts and the OWASP Top 10.
- Experience working in Agile or Scrum development environments.
